Cycling Tanzania 2020

Story

In February 2020 our group of riders are going to ride their bicycles the length of Tanzania, from the Kenyan border to the Malawi border, to raise funds for the inspirational School of St Jude in Arusha, Tanzania.

The ride is about 1550 km and will take us from the north east to the south west borders of the country.

St Jude’s provides a free, non-denominational , high-quality education to children who — due to poverty and social pressures — would otherwise be unlikely to complete their schooling. Drawn from families who often live on less than $1.25 per day, the pupils of St Jude’s are shining examples of what students can achieve when they are given the opportunity to receive a quality education.

The way they do things at St Jude’s is different. With generous and ongoing support from individuals and institutions around the world they have built an exceptional educational institution that regularly ranks in the top 10% of Tanzania. Every single one of their students was chosen because they combined academic promise with a desperately poor background and a great attitude to work. They feed them, house them, educate them, and do everything possible to ensure theirstudents’ wellbeing and future success. As a result they have three campuses filled with happy and healthy children in a country where children frequently drop out of school.

The school was started by Gemma Sisia, a great Aussie making  a difference.  There has been a lot of Australian support for the school over the years - for every $3000 approximately that we raise a student will receive an education for a year!

Come on, you know you want to  support this great cause and follow our suffering at       https://cyclingtanzania2020.wordpress.com/blog/    all through February 2020!  Or follow us on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/groups/442261723018321/

For more info about the school, go to http://www.schoolofstjude.org

With many thanks for your support, and to the School of St Jude for the opportunity to do something worthwhile,

Andrew, Geoff, Neil, Graeme, Bruce, Selwyn, Ash, Peter, Russel and James
