Pedal for Parkinsons!

Story

Hi there!

Late last year my father Stephen was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. There is NO cure. As a nurse, I took this news pretty hard. Having looked after many Parkinson's patients I knew what was to come. I had an overwhelming sense of helplessness, there was nothing I could do to fix him & what was to come was out of my control.

Something I can control is my body. It's 25 years young, healthy, reasonably fit and can be trained to do whatever I want it to. So why not make the most of my body and use it to raise some money so that one day, everyone has the ability to control their body too.

With world parkinsons day coming up on April 11, I am pledging to cycle 100km beginning on April 1 and finishing my goal by world parkinsons day. I am very new to cycling and have only just purchased my first bike so for me this is a huge deal!!

If you also enjoy cycling please feel free to get involved and cycle the 100km from April 1-April 11 aswell!

Please help me raise some much needed funds and awareness for Parkinson's disease and help encourage me to get to the 100km goal!

All donations will go to the shake it up Australia foundation, which works together with the Michael J Fox foundation to find a cure for Parkinsons Disease.

Shake It Up Australia Foundation

Shake It Up Australia has a clear mission: To find the cure for Parkinson’s

There are an estimated 100,000 Australians living with Parkinson’s with another 38 diagnosed every day. 20% of those diagnosed are under 50 years old. With your help, we can change this!

Shake It Up has partnered with the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research to fund the world’s best research in Australia targeted at finding better treatments and ultimately a cure.

100% OF YOUR DONATION GOES DIRECTLY TO RESEARCH.  THAT’S RIGHT 100%!  Our founding directors cover all general expenses of the Foundation ensuring every cent of your donation makes a real difference in the quest to find a cure for Parkinson’s.

About Shake It Up

Shake It Up Australia Foundation together with our partner at The Michael J. Fox Foundation are the largest non-government funder of Parkinson's research across multiple institutes in Australia.   Founded in 2011 we have funded over $11.5M in research targeted at finding better treatments and ultimately the cure.

The Foundation was established by Clyde Campbell, a father of three and business owner who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2009 at the age of 44.

Clyde set out to find out as much as he could about the disease and determine what he could do in a practical sense to assist. His search led him to the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research (MJFF) in the United States and the remarkable work they do to fund medical research targeted at finding better treatments on the path to a cure for Parkinson’s disease.

The approach MJFF takes to assessing, funding and project managing the world’s best research all over the globe eliminates redundancy, ensures efficiency and unites the global community in the quest to find a cure.

Clyde realised that funding Parkinson’s research was the best thing that he could do to help himself, his family and the 100,000 other Australians living with the disease. With that clear in his mind, Clyde founded Shake It Up Australia Foundation (SIUAF) to give other Australians the opportunity to join his quest.
