Story
Once again, I have a cycling challenge to support the SAN Foundation.
I asked Karen Gair, Managing Director of the SAN Foundation, if they had a specific project for my 2020 cycling challenge. This is what Karen told me “we do need some more electric recliners for cancer ward. These are chairs that can be converted to a bed so that a carer can stay overnight with their loved one if needs be. We helped the hospital purchase a few a few months ago and they have proven so popular they want more. They are $5,000 each. Below is one with the Poon ward team."
My challenge
The recliners cost $5,000 so I thought, I’ll ride 5,000km during 2020 (about 900km more than my current yearly personal best). So far this year I’ve ridden 1,879km. My riding hasn’t been as consistent as I would like. My mum passed away in March after a short illness and I had a crash on my bike on May 20. The bike is repairable but I won’t have it back until mid-July.
That gives me 24 weeks to ride 3,121kms, an average of 130km per week. If the various community rides planned for October and November this year are permitted, I’ll include the 105 km Sydney Spring Cycle on Sunday 11th October, and the 80km L’Étape Australia by Tour de France ride in Kiama on Saturday 28 November.
Last year supporter donations helped me raise $4,158 . Hopefully we can raise $5,000 this year so the Foundation may buy another recliner.
Thank you for support, it is very much appreciated.
