The Boundless Plains Bike Ride 2018
The Boundless Plains Bike Ride 2018
Story
My name is Steven Taylor, a social worker and commuter cyclist living in Australia. I'm gearing up to make a difference by fundraising for a cause that's close to my heart: riding my bicycle from Melbourne to Sydney and back, to fund-raise for the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre. My aim is to raise $3,000 to help fund their social and advocacy programs, in support of all the great work they do for people in need.
About the ride:
This is a 2,500 kilometre loop, taking roughly 5 or six weeks by beginning from Melbourne along the coast to Sydney, and returning back inland through Canberra and the snowy mountains region.
About the cause:
The Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC) aims to support and empower people seeking asylum around Australia by delivering programs and services in the areas of greatest need. They provide food and material aid, mental health and housing assistance, healthcare, legal aid, advocacy, education and training, social programs, and other front-line services for people desperately in need.
The ASRC's vision is that all people seeking asylum in Australia have their human rights upheld and that those in our community receive the support and opportunities they need to live independently.
You can find out more about their work and the cause you'll be supporting with your donation here: https://www.asrc.org.au/our-work/
I’d appreciate any contribution, big or small.
Donations made through this platform are secure and will be remitted directly through to ASRC in Melbourne.
Thanks so much for your support!
ASRC Footscray (Asylum Seeker Resource Centre)
The Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC) is both a place and a movement.
As an independent not for profit organisation, we are owned and run by our community. Our programs empower people seeking asylum to maximise their own physical, mental and social well-being. As a movement, we mobilise and unite communities to create lasting social and policy change for people seeking asylum in Australia.
We assist over 7,000 people seeking asylum each year from our centres in Footscray and Dandenong, Victoria.
