Story
Hi there!
17 February 2020 our group of riders start(ed) to ride their bicycles the length of Tanzania, from the Kenyan border to the Malawi border, to raise funds for the inspirational School of St Jude in Arusha, Tanzania.
The ride is about 1550 km and will take us from the north east to the south west borders of the country.
St Jude’s provides a free, non-denominational , high-quality education to children who — due to poverty and social pressures — would otherwise be unlikely to complete their schooling. The pupils of St Jude’s are shining examples of what students can achieve when they are given the opportunity to receive a quality education.
The way they do things at St Jude’s is different. With generous and ongoing support from individuals and institutions around the world they have built an exceptional educational institution that regularly ranks in the top 10% of Tanzania. Every single one of their students was chosen because they combined academic promise with a desperately poor background and a great attitude to work. They feed them, house them, educate them, and do everything possible to ensure their students’ wellbeing and future success. As a result they have three campuses filled with happy and healthy children in a country where children frequently drop out of school.
The school was started by Gemma Sisia, a great Aussie making a difference. There has been a lot of Australian support for the school over the years - for every $3000 approximately that we raise a student will receive an education for a year!
Come on, you know you want to support this great cause and follow our suffering at https://cyclingtanzania2020.wordpress.com/blog/ all through February 2020! Or follow us on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/groups/442261723018321/

The School of St Jude Ltd
The School of St Jude is supported by The East African Fund and is based in Arusha, Tanzania, East Africa . The School of St Jude is a charity funded school that provides a free, high-quality primary and secondary education to more than 1,800 of the poorest and brightest students.. Located across three campuses, St Jude’s also provides boarding to over 1,000 students and employs over 300 local Tanzanians. Through sponsors, donors and supporters from around the globe, St Jude’s is “fighting poverty through education.” By providing the poorest students with a high-quality education equipped with well-resourced facilities like computer and science labs, hot nutritious meals and clean drinking water, St Jude’s is fast becoming a centre of academic excellence that hopes to educate the future leaders of Tanzania. The school also provides professional development training for its academic and non-academic local staff, teaching them the required skills and knowledge to further their own career.
East African Fund is the Australian support arm of The School of St Jude and offers tax deductibility in Australia.
